ウィーン少年合唱団初の日本人団員が、日本コンサートツアーに初登場する。
内容は日本語でさまざまに報道されているようだ。

記者会見ではドイツ語で答えたという「シマダ」くん。
どうやら日本語を使わない方針のようだ。
ファンやメディア対策としては、有効な手段かもしれない。
注目が一人に集中するのはたしかに望ましくない。
もっとも、出身地に関係なく、「歌の超天才（数十年に一人の）」であれば、団としても売り出す方向でいくのだろうけど。

このツアーの通訳を今でも学生がやっているのであれば、彼のいい相談相手になってほしいものである。
シマダくんのドイツ語は発展途上のようだけど、発音はなかなかよかった。
記者会見みたいな場では、母語だってしどろもどろになるものです。
・・・いまはもう、通訳は学生ではないかもしれません。

13. First Japanese to join Vienna Boys Choir

13-year-old Kai Shimada, the first Japanese to join the Vienna Boys Choir, will appear before Japanese audiences from Friday, when his group starts touring in Japan.

In a news conference in Tokyo on Wednesday, Shimada said in German that he first had difficulty in getting accustomed to meals and the language when he started living in the choir's dormitory.

He said he's happy to see other members singing a Japanese song titled Furusato, or homeland, one of the songs to be performed in concerts in Japan.

The head of the Choir, Eugen Jesser, said he's relieved that Shimada could overcome the language barrier more easily than he had anticipated.

He said it's nice to see boys with various cultural backgrounds join the Choir.

Shimada decided to join the choir after he saw one of its performances in Japan two years ago.

He passed an audition in Vienna, and became the first Japanese to join the choir, which was founded in 1498.

The Group tours Tokyo, Osaka and other parts of Japan until June and will perform a total of 33 concerts.
